Vienna, 5th March 2015 – The 23rd UN/INTOSAI Symposium was held in Vienna from March 2 – 4, 2015. The theme of the symposium was "UN Post-2015 Development Agenda: The Role of SAIs and Means of Implementation for Sustainable Development".

At 23rd UN/INTOSAI Symposium participated more than 160 representatives of INTOSAI, UNDESA, supreme audit institutions and international organizations, parliaments and donor organizations. The delegation of the State audit institution of Montenegro, consisting of members of Senate, Branislav Radulović, PhD and Nikola Kovačević participated in the work of the Symposium.

The symposium aimed at specifying the role of SAIs with regard to auditing area of sustainable development as well as possibility for the SAIs to promote and improve sustainable development. The United Nations Post-2015 Development Agenda, as well as negotiations related to UN Sustainable development goals are still in the preparatory phase. The future SDGs will include a focus on the means of implementation of development measures and reflect the need for functioning state institutions. The proposed goal 16 “Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels” expresses the understanding for the need of development of state capacities for sustainable development and calls on SAIs to get more involved in development cooperation.

The Symposium helps the SAIs to get insights and experience into this important theme.

At the end of the Symposium, the participants adopted the recommendations which represent the key conclusions and ideas during the Symposium.
