President of the Senate at the Conference “The role of the Supreme Audit Institutions in enhancing accountability, transparency and integrity in the public sector “

Sofia, 15th May 2018 – At the invitation of the president of the National audit office of Bulgaria, president of the Senate of the SAI, PhD Milan Dabović took part in the conference at the high level „The role of the Supreme Audit Institutions in enhancing accountability, transparency and integrity in the public sector“, organized under the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The Conference was officially opened by the president of the National audit office of Bulgaria, Mr. Tzvetan Tzvetkov, while the president of the European Court of Auditors, Mr. Klaus – Heiner Lehne held a keynote speech.

During the conference, the participants held discussion about the following themes: institutional independence – key factor for SAI effectiveness; on the road to value-driven audits; administrative capacity modernization of SAIs - example of good governance in the public sector and communication with stakeholders and increasing the trust of the citizens.

The panel discussion encompassed the examples of good practice and achievements of the SAI of EU members countries, as well as challenges in front of the SAI of the EU candidate countries.

The representatives of the SAI of Czech Republic, Finland, Poland, Slovenia, Ireland, Netherlands, Austria, Serbia, Albania, Turkey, Kosovo and Macedonia participated at the conference.

The president of the Senate, PhD Milan Dabović held a presentation on the theme “Partnership with the Parliament – challenges” within the IV panel dedicated to communication with stakeholders and increasing the trust of the citizens.
